Adults

At Westminster, we believe that we never stop learning about God and how God wants us to live together. We think that education and connection for adults is an essential part of being a disciple of Jesus Christ. Discipleship is the process of being transformed into the persons God wants us to be. This involves learning how to be Christian by study, prayer, fellowship, and participation in God’s mission for our congregation and each of us individually.

Adult Education

All Adult Sunday School classes meet at 9:45 in Fellowship Hall. In addition to these educational opportunities, there are seasonal studies, Bible Study groups, and other small groups. We encourage all adults to explore opportunities to deepen their faith at the following places:

Mo-Ranch Camp & Conference Center
North Texas Presbyterian Pilgrimage
Camp Gilmont

Adult 1 - Contemporary Issues & Faith

From fall through the spring, we explore how our faith shapes our responses to current events. Using The Wired Word, Pastor Kate and other leaders look at how Scriptures can prompt our big questions and confront these contemporary issues with hope.

Adult 2 - Reading Disciples

This class reads and discusses various inspiring, insightful and challenging pieces of literature, which present moral questions and explore what it means to live a faithful life. Click here to see our reading schedule for 2023-2024. This year, we'll look for God in Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret by Judy Blume; The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton; A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce; Carmen by Prosper Mérimée; Catch-22 by Joseph Heller; Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin; Everything Sad Is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri; and Overstory by Richard Powers. Click here to read more about each book selected.

Relational Groups

We joyfully gather to connect with each other in a number of ways, both in large and smaller groups. Interested in joining any of our groups? Please call the office for more information! Opportunities to connect at Westminster include:

Beer Tasting: This diverse group gathers for fellowship and beer tasting at church or in homes at 7:00 p.m. on the third Friday of each month.

Bookworms: Members choose a monthly book for reading and lively discussion. They meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. on Zoom.

Ladies' Lunch Out: On the second Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., WPC women of all ages gather at a local Arlington spot for lunch.

Men’s Masterclass: Once a month, the men of the church gather together to learn from each other and put the "fellas" back in fellowship.

Sunday Feasts: Come feed your body and soul on Sundays periodically after worship, with a free lunch.

Women of Westminster Ladies’ Salad Supper: An annual event held the first Wednesday in May, shared by women members and their friends and relatives, which includes potluck salads, along with socializing and entertainment.

Women's Circle: Beginning with breakfast together, this group studies the Bible and grows together on the third Tuesday of the month at 9:30 a.m., using the national Presbyterian Women's study.

Young at Heart: With events scheduled quarterly, this group of AARP-aged members learns and grows together. Recent events have included outings to the Christian Art Museum in Fort Worth, Theatre Arlington, and George Bush Presidential Library, as well as lunch and programs at the church.

Young Adults:This group for 18-40ish year old young adults comes together around mission projects, hikes, baking cookies, faith discussions, Bible study, and more.

Church Library

The library at Westminster is always open! Come in, take a comfy chair and read awhile…or check out a book and bring it home, returning it when you are finished.

The library is a valuable source for information on many different aspects related to the Christian faith – Christian living, theology, daily devotion, grief and recovery, Bible concordances and reference books, and even Christian fiction.

The Bookworms and Reading Disciples have stocked the shelves with books they have read and discussed - take a book, leave a book!

The library is also used by many committees and groups who choose the coziness of the room for their meetings.
