Adults

At Westminster, we believe that we never stop learning about God and how God wants us to live together. We think that education and connection for adults is an essential part of being a disciple of Jesus Christ. Discipleship is the process of being transformed into the persons God wants us to be. This involves learning how to be Christian by study, prayer, fellowship, and participation in God’s mission for our congregation and each of us individually.

Adult Education

Sunday School
All Adult Sunday School classes meet at 9:45 in Fellowship Hall; Reading Disciples is also available on Zoom.

Adult 1

Adult 1 class features rotating topics about the Bible, biblical history, Presbyterianism, and more. September 2021 begins with "Animate: Faith," gaining perspectives on God, religion, Jesus, salvation, the cross, the Bible, and the church from seven Christian contemporary leaders. Pastor Kate curates the topics and teachers, and is always open to suggestions!

Reading Disciples

This class reads and discusses various inspiring, insightful and challenging pieces of literature, which present moral questions and explore what it means to live a faithful life. Previous authors have included C.S. Lewis, Ralph Ellison, Mohsin Hamid, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. September 2021 kicks off with The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey by Walter Mosley. Other recent book selections have included The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky, A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, The Mercy Seat by Elizabeth Hartley Winthrop, and Lamb by Christopher Moore.

Relational Groups

We joyfully gather to connect with each other in a number of ways, both in large and smaller groups. Interested in joining any of our groups? Please call the office for more information! Opportunities to connect at Westminster include:

Beer Tasting: This diverse group gathers for fellowship and beer tasting at church or in homes at 7:00 p.m. on the third Friday of each month.

Bookworms: Members choose a monthly book for reading and lively discussion. They meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in the comfort of the church library.

Men’s/Women’s Breakfasts: are held on the last Sunday of the month at 8:30 a.m. The men meet at the church, taking turns providing breakfast and enjoying a study. The women meet at Rise & Shine Restaurant on Pioneer Parkway. **TEMPORARILY ON COVID-19 HOLD**

Sunday Feasts: Come feed your body and soul on Sundays periodically after worship, with a free lunch and inspiring speaker.

Women of Westminster Ladies’ Salad Supper: An annual event held the first Wednesday in May, shared by women members and their friends and relatives, which includes potluck salads, along with socializing and entertainment.

Women's Circle: Beginning with breakfast together, this group studies the Bible and grows together on the third Tuesday of the month at 9:30 a.m., using the national Presbyterian Women's study.

Young at Heart: With events scheduled quarterly, this group of AARP-aged members learns and grows together. Recent events have included outings to the Christian Art Museum in Fort Worth, Theatre Arlington, and George Bush Presidential Library, as well as lunch and programs at the church.

Church Library

The library at Westminster is always open! Come in, take a comfy chair and read awhile…or check out a book and bring it home, returning it when you are finished.

The library is a valuable source for information on many different aspects related to the Christian faith – Christian living, theology, daily devotion, grief and recovery, Bible concordances and reference books, and even Christian fiction.

The Bookworms and Reading Disciples have stocked the shelves with books they have read and discussed - take a book, leave a book!

The library is also used by many committees and groups who choose the coziness of the room for their meetings.
